Michael Abril · (Bogotá, Colombia. 1975 – )

Photographer and Industrial Designer. Abril completed his Industrial Design studies at the Universidad Nacional de Colombia (1993-2000).

As a professional, he has worked on projects in product design, visual communication, photography, furniture and commercial spaces. He has also taught the Design and Expression Workshop, a first year Industrial Design course at Universidad Nacional de Colombia (2004).

In 2007, he took part in “Photographing the Social Landscape”, a workshop led by the North-American documentary photographer Karen Marshall, at the International Center of Photography (ICP) in New York.

Abril currently lives and works in Montréal, Québec, where he is completing his training in commercial photography at Dawson College.

March – Sept 2006. “Memories of the Journey” series. Development of documentary photography pieces in Europe.

Oct – Dec 2006. “Cantares desde la Caverna” photo documentary. Photographic tracking of final year students majoring in Acting from the Universidad Distrital, in Bogotá.

Sept – Nov 2007. “Memories of the Journey” public photography exhibition at the British Council headquarters in Bogotá.

Dec 2007 – Jan 2008. “A Different Christmas Time” public photography exhibition about life in streets of the city, at the Catedral Primada de Bogotá.

Feb 2008. “The Beginning of the Journey” portfolio book. Publication of a compilation of his own work between 2005 and 2007.
